The History of CELLS
Cells are the basic unit of life . Every living organisms are made up of cells.Human body is made up of trillions of cells .Everyday many cells are dying and regenerating in our body without our acknowledge. We never think about the microscopic changes or events happening in our body .
Cells house the biological machinery that makes the proteins, chemicals, and signals responsible for everything that happens inside our bodies.
Discovery of cell
As we all know Robert Hooke discovered cells .But we don't know the story behind the discovery. The main reason behind the discovery of cells is due to improvement in compound microscope. His microscope used three lenses and a stage light, which illuminated and enlarged the specimens.
He observed a piece of cork under this microscope. He then observed many compartments like structures and called it ' CELLS '.Hooke detailed his observations of this tiny and previously unseen world in his book, Micrographia. He explained in his book that it also looked like honey combs.
After Robert Hooke ,a Dutch microbiologist Anton van Leeuwenhoek wanted to discover more small cells by improving the microscope. He began to analyze human tissue for cells. He was most well known for his discovery of protozoa in 1674. In 1678, Leeuwenhoek discovered bacteria and called them "animalcules" or "little animals".He was the first person to examine many cells, including red blood cells. He was also the first person to see the nucleus of these blood cells.
Cell Theory
Cell theory, fundamental scientific theory of biology according to which cells are held to be the basic units of all living tissues. First proposed by German scientists Theodor Schwann and Matthias Jakob Schleiden in 1838, the theory that all plants and animals are made up of cells marked a great conceptual advance in biology and resulted in renewed attention to the living processes that go on in cells.
According to cell theory
1] All living organisms are composed of cells and products of cells.
2] All cells arise from pre -existingcells.
Later with the help of compound electric microscope all the organelles are discovered. The discovery of cells are the magnificient milestone in the history of biology , which led to the modern day improvements in health and resources.
